MAY 27, 1924~Ravenden Springs, AR

Monday Night
Dear Vasta:
-I beg you to pardon me for not ans(wering) sooner but I have been busy & neglected. Would say to my self I'll sure write to morrow or to nite but did not.
It is raining lots. We've hoed 10 acres cotton & have 42 more to hoe. Going to start some hoe hands in the morning.
Well how,s RS, ? (Ravenden Springs)
Flourishing I guess? Ha
I went to a (I went to a...) big dinner & services all day & got me a new girl. Sun(day) She,s a good looker. Can't say where she is a good as she looks or not.
The first girl I went with when I came down here got married Sat Night. No wonder I'm blue. ha
Theres a big dinner % a singing convention here close next Sun.
Were all expecting a big day. If one went to all theres to go (If one went to all theres to go...) to here he would drive four head of horses to death & tear up a Ford car.
I'd like to see you but don't know when I'll come out when crops are done or not We may put our teams on a log haul if we don't we'll bring them to Oconee & put them on the pasture.
I ho(pe) your not jealous or I'm not either these good looking women here are nice to pass the time with but not all of them will do to trust.
But still they're as good as I am, I shouldn't say anything (Honest John ha)
I think PaPa means to go back to the mountains soon.
You ask why I was at court. I was a witness on a whiskey case but never had to go on the stand, he came clear.
When we witnesses all started to Paragould the county seat a lady made the remark that bunch can tell & make the court believe that hell is a ice berg ha (Pardon the remark)
It is most 8 oclock & I've got work like a mule tomorrow. I'll close. I'll bet you a Yankee dime my pencil isn't a inch & 1/2 long. I'll measure on this paper & see who win for it's a penny.
Cut & sharpened on both ends it will be easy marked.
Who won
As ever
Colon
***Pay attention to what just happened here. Grandpa just bet Grandma that his pencil is shorter than hers and he "Cut & sharpened on both ends" so it will be easy to mark on the page.
The lines on either side of "Who won" is the length of the pencil.
I guess he did not have a date that night and needed something to do with his time...Dennis***
